Digital transformation is a constantly evolving and somewhat abstract concept. Its popularity rests in its improvement of outcomes by increasing digital maturity and inspiring digital adoption; two goals that have consistently shown to make organizations be more competitive, sustainable and prosperous.

For many rural governments and public agencies, there is now a tipping point in the ROI for launching digital transformation initiatives. Cloud-based workplaces have stronger integrations than their predecessors and are more accessible from an operational standpoint – addressing the twin goals of digital transformation.

Supporting municipalities

At Sierra Systems, an NTT DATA Company, we have partnered with government and public-sector organizations to improve their outcomes for decades. These projects help accelerate innovation to engage with more citizens, empower employees, optimize city operations and infrastructure, and, generally, increase collaboration.

Recent developments in cost savings and ROI are now accelerating demand for digital transformations, bringing smaller public agencies into these projects. The inherent cost savings in moving away from legacy systems’ maintenance costs has existed for years, but this advantage relies on organizations fully utilizing cloud functionality.

Cloud solutions, such as Microsoft 365, amplify integration and adoption levels, letting agencies take full advantage of the new innovations that digital transformations promise. This is enhanced with management tools to sharpen project visioning before go-live and evergreen cloud maintenance to let projects to flourish in the long-term.

How we helped Bruce County Innovate for the Modern Workplace

An example of a successful digital transformation is Ontario’s County of Bruce. As part of an ambitious upgrade to their core infrastructure (across an area of nearly 4,000 square-km) Bruce County Officials used tools such as Microsoft’s Customer Immersion Experience (CIE) to see how Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint Online, and Skype for Business would operate with their specific entities and data to create new processes.

A collaborative plan was developed to install these solutions into a cloud-based data-sharing solution named “Bruceworx”. BruceWorx rapidly improved communication with video meetings, chats, and a unified network of data sharing. With the simplicity of BruceWorx’s SharePoint team sites, the various local administrators created their own processes and data-sharing policies without needing to engage the County’s small IT team.

Sierra Systems is proud to have supported the County in launching Bruceworx. It has already been awarded for its digital transformation, and more importantly, showcased how small governments can achieve cost-effective delivery of the right information at the right time.
